This is Your Land by Monica Bryant completed in 2018. It was edited and painted over her 2017 painting which was titled America First?. Bryant responds to the news of the day and the extreme disruption in the American history narrative. There are silhouettes of women and signs and hats from the 2016 women’s march following the inauguration of President Trump. This is Your Land includes a photograph of Bryant’s television screen, printed and mounted the on canvas. It was an image of Netanyahu and Trump in 2017. Bryant painted in other world leaders and their flags: Theresa May and the British flag, Shinsō Abe and the Japanese flag and Justin Trudeau and the Canadian flag. The leaders have been obscured and the silhouette of USA is visible. There is a horizontal line mid painting that evokes the division in the United States today. The artist feels the floating figure images surrounding our capital and our country are the good spirits that are working for us in the background.
